A Pilot Project In Kenya Will Illuminate 100 Schools With Efficient Lighting

The pilot phase aims to demonstrate the feasibility of a large-scale lighting replacement plan in secondary boarding institutions, create a foundation for energy-efficient methods, estimate school lighting necessities and identify necessary implementation difficulties.

Stakeholders from several government departments and the corporate sector agreed on a process for school selection and collected and analysed energy consumption data from 100 schools in Kenya’s 47 counties. The pilot focused on schools with at least ten years of operation, a high occupancy rate and high electrical consumption.

This phase concluded with a high-level holistic energy consumption audit, which revealed that the schools would need to upgrade over 25,000 light fixtures, affecting over 100,000 students.
