Three Models Are Introduced to the Kenyan Market by Chinese Electric Vehicle Manufacturer BYD

The electric vehicle (EV) maker BYD has launched the BYD Atto 3, BYD Seal, and BYD Dolphin models in Nairobi, Kenya, following a partnership with a local leasing company.

The managing director of LOXEA Kenya, Jennifer Kinyoe, stated, “Diversifying into electric vehicles is a perfect fit with our mission to provide innovative, sustainable mobility solutions to businesses and individuals.”

“It demonstrates our dedication to providing solutions that are ready for the future, and we are thrilled to collaborate with BYD, a top global producer of electric vehicles and batteries, as we forge ahead in Kenya’s automated sector,” she added.

A few months ago, Chery, another Chinese EV maker, partnered with a Kenyan company to begin producing its car brands the next year. Leading Africa’s EV transition, Kenya and other East African nations have been developing legislation and fostering an atmosphere that encourages the use of electric vehicles.

Steve Chang, general manager of BYD South Africa, stated, “We anticipate that our e-vehicles will assist Kenya in its endeavor to establish a sustainable transportation sector that aids in environmental conservation.”

“BYD’s presence in Kenya demonstrates our dedication to advancing the nation’s green transition and updating its transportation system. Kenya is positioned to become a regional center for sustainable innovation thanks to its advantageous location and progressive laws, according to Florent Montaubin, MD of Loxea Holdings.

To make sure that the necessary charging infrastructure is put built in advance of the growing demand for EVs, Loxea will collaborate closely with Knight Energies. About 5,000 electric cars are currently on Kenyan roads, and by 2030, that number is predicted to triple, according to data from EPRA.

Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers have been working to combine markets around the world. The fact that BYD surpassed Tesla as the EV manufacturer with the most sales at the beginning of Q4 2023 suggests that the company’s vehicles have a promising future.
